Haller Airpark

Green Cove Springs, FL

USA

Description

Haller Air Park is located six miles south of Green Cove Springs and 20 miles north of Palatka directly off of Highway 17. This location directly at Hwy. 17 offers convenient access to Green Cove Springs, Mandarin, Orange Park and Jacksonville. Haller Air Park features a 2600 foot grass runway with 660 ft. overruns on both the north and south ends of the runway. The runway is equipped with an irrigation system on one side which services approximately three quarters of the width of the runway for those times of drought that we experience. There is an active EAA Chapter on the field. EAA Chapter 1379 was founded in 2003 at Haller Air Park. The Chapter meet at 10:00 am the second Saturday of each month in the "Dreamland Squadron" Ready Room. The Ready Room was created by four of the members at their hangar, and features a Navy environment. Located half way down the runway on the west side, you can't miss the grey hangar with the orange door. Visitors are welcome to drive or fly in to any meeting. A high percentage of the aircraft at Haller are experimental, and they have a lot of talent at the field and in their chapter. The EAA chapter is low key but active, averaging about 20 members from the local area. They embrace all projects and experimental flight, and conduct an annual "fly in" and Young Eagle event. Information on EAA Chapter 1379 can be viewed atwww.eaa1379.org. Haller Air Park was originally started in 1977 by Frank Haller & his wife Margaret. Frank & Margaret have since moved on and the Air Park has continued to flourish with management by Touch & Go Aero, Inc., a corporation started by the residents, that owns, manages and maintains the runway, roads and easements. Each resident has the opportunity to buy a share in the corporation which is their good faith investment in the neighborhood which also gives them the right to vote on decisions of the Corporation. Touch & Go Aero Inc. owns the equipment to mow and maintain the runway & the residents pitch in and mow, which is what helps to keep the payments to the corporation at the current amount of $69.00 per quarter.
